USBC Concludes Series of Undoing Racism Workshops

On July 22 the Anti-Racism Training Institute of the Southwest (ARTI), a project of United South Broadway Corporation, hosted the third of three Policy Dialogues among providers and advocates to address racism in housing, healthcare and education in New Mexico.

The Dialogues followed three-day Undoing Racism ® workshops presented by the People’s Institute for Survival and Beyond (www.pisab.org).

Common themes that emerged from the Dialogues is that racism in housing, healthcare and education is unexamined, unrecognized and is perpetuated at the local, state and federal levels throughout these systems; that all of these systems affect the health of individuals and communities; that the voices, culture and needs of the people and communities affected by these institutions are the key to much-needed change; and that real breakthroughs will come from trusting community leadership, rather than a tops-down “we know best” approach.

Participants will continue to meet this fall.

The workshops and Policy Dialogues have been funded in part by the Con Alma Health Foundation, in order to rebuild communities devastated by COVID-19.
